God of War II
Gameplay
It has been confirmed that after being stripped of most of his abilities, Kratos is left with Blades of Athena and Poseidon's Rage.
Kratos also will be able to take flight, though it may be on the back of Pegasus or using the Icarus Wings. Winged combat against enemies on Griffins is also a strong rumor. Another story trait that has been confirmed is that the relics will be more closely tied with the story, like obtaining the Golden Fleece to ward off the gaze of a Gorgon that is emblazoned on a temple door. Also, items like Cyclops eyes can only be obtained by completing mini-games.
There will be a new Challenge of the Gods mode, which is said to be more difficult, and includes a ranking system. There are bonuses for achieving the highest rank; however the next level can be reached by achieving the lowest rank. There is a save feature in between rounds as well.
Another mode revealed is a Battle Arena mode in which the number and types of opponents can be customized. The experience points carry over to the main game.
There are new costumes with new abilities, and the costumes can be customized.
Upon beating the game, a new game can be started with the weapons and magic from the last game carrying over.
Enemies
These enemies have all been seen in various trailers, articles, exclusives:
* Undead Legionaire - Undead soldiers and archers are back from the first game.
* Cyclops - These creatures make their return from the original, and now have small imps which ride them.
* A Giant Minotaur - resembling the boss from the original.
* Harpies - Have been given a new look, appearing to be much larger and darker than they were in the original.
* Skeletons - can allegedly rebuild themselves after being cut down.
* The Cerberus - involved in a minigame in which Kratos must use three different devices to behead the creature.
* Wraiths - standard soldier from the original.
* Sirens - make their return from the original.
* Gorgons - make their return from the original, but with the exception that now the gorgon freezing ray can petrify other gorgons, which was not possible in the first game.
* Human soldiers - Fight Kratos in Rhodes, ask Zeus to guide them in their battles as they fight.
BOSSES
* Colossus of Rhodes - A behemoth with the size and look of the Statue of Liberty. First boss in the game, the battle takes place in Rhodes and the Colossus will toss Kratos from place to place, thus expanding the length and scope of the entire boss battle.
* Euryale - Medusa's sister. Much larger, heavier gorgon.
* The Barbarian King - Fought and defeated Kratos in his days as a Spartan Commander (and who forced Kratos to make his deal with Ares). Footage was shown of Kratos battling against him and his fellow barbarians. It is believed that the Barbarian King was resurrected by Hades, as part of the rebellion the gods have against Kratos.
Weapons and Magic
Weapons that have been confirmed:
It has been confirmed that Kratos will receive 3 additional weapons, bringing the total to four.
* The Blades of Athena: Given to Kratos by the goddess Athena. Much of the combo moves from the original have carried over. The Cyclone of Chaos maneuver is still the same (as seen in the video Stabby on IGN as the first move that Kratos makes), while a similar move displays Kratos spinning his arms on the same side, instead of separately.
* The Barbarian King Hammer: This hammer comes from the Barbarian King and can summon the dead souls of Hades; this weapon is actually the second returning spell "Army of Hades" but incorporated into a weapon.
Rumors regarding the final two weapons:
In a picture from the OPM magazine Kratos is shown holding a big sword with a blue glow, the Blade of Olympus but nothing more of it is known apart from that you will have to sacrifice godly power, red orbs and Rage of Poseidon to power it up. The sword is shown here: http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h280/Pinski/GOWII.jpg
The last weapon is rumored to be a trident as according to a video interview, Kratos would strike his trident at the ground and earthquakes/fissures would appear. However it is yet to be confirmed whether this rumor is true or not.
Magics that have been confirmed:
* Poseidon's Rage: Kratos starts out with this magic, and the Level 1 spell appears to be more powerful than the starting spell in the first game. The Wrath of Poseidon, the attack where Kratos spins around returns at Level 2.
* The Wind Bow: Level 1, shoots out supernatural wind arrows; Level 2, shoots out a charged shot in the form of a whirlwind which will send multiple enemies skywards; Level 3, will shoot out a massive tornado. This tornado is not an arrow-shot but an actual tornado which rips and tears enemies to pieces.
An ice blast, real name not confirmed: Level 1, shoots out a blast of ice in a shotgun form, Level 2, summons an ice shield that hovers around Kratos and damages enemies when they get too close; Level 3, summons a massive blizzard. The ice spell was said to be removed from the final version, in turn for another magic, by Cory Barlog.
Cory has also hinted at the freezing move returning this time as Euryale's gaze.
A new thunder magic from Kronos which lets Kratos place thunderbolts that will essentially tie-down enemies and shock them. This magic has been confirmed by a recent trailer on IGN, however the name is still unknown.
The last magic is rumored to be an earth spell which will summon earthquakes and fissures that enemies fall into.
